With Conway in obliging mood, members were treated to a Christmas cracker in the fur n feather. The carp fed with gay abandon, leading to some big weights and some red-faced 'roachers'.
Tony Byers was among the first to see carp action, but took the 'good will to all men' too literally by releasing most of them before they reached his net. According to Jamie, old crafty must have been fishing in a channel.
Next door, presumably in the same channel, was Steve Coleman, who had a couple of early fish on corn, and then sussed out the carp fancied some mince pie paste and caught steadily through the day to amass the very impressive total of 50lb 06oz. And he put two nets in! Well done Steve.
Jamie Pickup was equally as impressive (well not quite) as he had 3 carp for 17lb, which, when added to his net of quality roach, gave him a 49lb 04oz total. Pretty good for maggot fishing, with the occasional worm hookbait. Healdy said worms are no good on Conwy.....why you no rissen?
With the imaginary channel seemingly full of carp, John Edwards was keen to see some action. His pineapple teabag was launched well over 100yards, and he too shared the action. Also adding a second keepnet in mid-match, dont know why, he weighed an agonisingly close 49lb to take third place. Nice one Sumo. His Conwy record suggests that it wont be too long before the sponsors come knocking. Surely Twinings or Del Monte love the effectiveness of the pineapple teabag, and Shimano cant fail to be impressed by his highlighting of their flagship Aspire pole.
Anyway, back to the aforementioned Mr Byers. He managed to hold on to a few of those carp, and added some roach to finish with a section winning 23lb odd. Well in Tone, top man in your car.
When the carp feed at Conwy, you look pretty stupid roach bashing, but that's just what Yozzer did, to the tune of 29lb 04oz. He didn't look that stupid though, as he went away with a brown envelope containing the other section money.
More top class sport, it seems crazy but we've only got two more on Conwy.
Merry Christmas too you all, I hope you get your strings pulled in 2012.
