Following some optimistic reports, and a couple of good pleasure fishing sessions (ask Pato), this match promised to be a vast improvement on our last visit. However, as is usually the way, it proved to be anything but. Too many anglers struggled for bites, and it became a ramblers convention, there were that many walking the bank looking for inspiration, or was it relief from the boredom?
It was not doom and gloom for everyone, and a few members caught impressively, including our winner, Gary Chambers. Mind you he always seems to fish impressively! He went over to the far bank with 16metre pole and corn to put mainly carp in his net, which weighed 42lb 8oz.
Despite catching a personal best tench of 7lb, the scales only registered it at three, so John Edwards ended up with a level 35lb of paste caught specimens to take second place. We really must let Sumo have a flier every week....saves him auditioning for 'grumpy old men'.
Third place went to Kenny Stuart, who again demonstrated his prowess by winkling out 9 or 10 carp from cyanide straight for a level 20lb, while those around him struggled for a bite.
Dave Norman reckons he 'fished it wrong' but still managed 18lb by using pellet fished shallow, and this was enough for a section win.
Following his ton-up catch in the Good Friday open at Lloyds, Yozzer demonstrated what a fluke it was by only bringing 17lb 8oz to the scales this time. However, it was good enough to secure the other section prize.
This Golden Nugget business is looking a bigger mismatch than David and Goliath. Once again Norman couldn't draw breath, let alone a half decent peg. Well that's what he says anyway. With 12 matches left, Norm would do well to write Sumo a cheque for £12 and forget the whole idea!
Dont forget the meeting on Tuesday is at The Cheshire Cheese

Those scales are obviously faulty.
ReplyDeleteYozzer, next time I come a guest I'll bring my walking boots, a bag of moans and half a pint of pinkies just in case, unless of course its a venue I know, then I'll leave the pinkies out!!
ReplyDeleteHard venue but good craic with the lads and better than sitting at home on a sunday.....but only just!!!
well well well nothing changes does it these people who cant take a joke. whats so bad about sitting holding 16mtres of pole cranking ur back out of joint and blanking or struggle for bites we do that most weeks anyway.by the way jamies got some tins of wupass for sale if anybodys interested. c u tuesday nite at the gay boys bar (oops sorry cheshire cheese)
ReplyDeleteI heard that the wupass canning factory closed down a few months ago due to lack of sales!!!
ReplyDeletePlenty getting sold, but it only seems to work in the Golden Nugget. At £2 a can, isn't it defeating the object?
ReplyDeleteI hope my victim draws on the front half this Sunday. Don't fancy driving all the way home with his dead body in the car if he draws the back.
ReplyDeleteHi mate, thanks for the kind comments. Im hopeless with directions but here goes. Its very close to Lloydes Meadow so i will start from Lloydes. You turn left out of the Lloydes Carpark and then turn right at the junction. Keep going along that road and you will pass the goshawk pub. keep going up that road until you get to a crossroads. left at the crossroads and you will soon see Manley Primary school on your left. When you get to the school, make a sharp left hand turn and follow a narrow road until you get to a T-junction. Turn right and just follow the road until you see a sign for Old Hall Farm.
ReplyDeleteIf you havn't all ready. Get on a website called MatchFishingScene.co.uk. Its absolutally brilliant. Hope this helps mate
