Just a thought, should have asked the question before Weston, which was also new to most members.
Border 3 islands is a new and unfamiliar venue to most. Can anyone post some in-depth info please, so members are not approaching next Sunday blind. Thanks in advance, here's hoping

ReplyDeleteI have fished it about a dozen times over the years so here goes, wish I was going:-
If you have the space only peg from the second island down. Its shallow and v.narrow to the first one and you walk the fish down the lake. Best draw is normally LHS or top end but all good for a mixed bag - lovely fishing at times!!
Generally you will be looking a 3-5ft deep depending on which end you draw. For most its fish up and down the shelf to the island with another line down the track. Inside rarely produces but in the summer can be good for carp on a few pegs (but March...can't see it...I'd ignore!)
There are loads of silvers and maggot can be a problem so pellet and corn are good. To do well you are looking at carp 1-4lb and chub around 1lb across, keeping the feeding little and often cupped in, probably micros and maggot with 4mm or corn on the hook unless its hard then maggot. Can be better down the shelf if its still clear, they settle better. Down the track its micros and 4mm again, groundbait can also work but its skimmers to 0.5-1.5lb your after. There a re few barbel pegs as well (LHS 3rd island if I remember but long on the pole)
If you put the far end pegs in, just put the middle two, the island is a feeder chuck but they are good pegs, there were some 60-80lb weights in January on them. Maggot or micros in the feeder and pellet/maggot on the hook.
Unless its windy floats you only need 4x12 or 4x14 max down the track and less across. I'd be looking at 0.12 and 18's for line and hooks to white hydro or an 8 unless the carp and barbel really show then just step up a notch. There are a few lumps but not many.....people hook and loose fish claiming lumps but I think its foul hooking by feeding too much across to be honest.
Wish I was going now - looking at the weather and time of year just feed light and feed to the bites, the pegs will get stronger as the day goes on unless you overfeed early.
Enjoy
thanks a lot Ian,
