Surprise, Surprise, that unpleasant Lingmere breeze reared it's ugly head on Sunday. However, those that sat in it were generally rewarded with better sport than those who had it comfortable.
After an amazingly consistent season, with podium finishes and section wins seemingly every week, it came as a bit of a shock to find that this was Dirk Wriggler's 1st win of the current campaign. The cream finally came to the top courtesy of a mixed bag on dead maggot which totalled 74lb 04oz. Another fine display so well done Degsy.
Some people's efforts to kid everyone are just plain ridiculous, and Jamie Pickup announcing that he had 25lb was one of them. Incredibly his fish ended up more numerous than his moans. "This wind is spoilin it.... if only this...if only that, I coulda done a ton." If only my auntie had balls....... Anyway, 25lb became 68lb 04oz and gave Jay an excellent silver medal. Awesome, and a lovely bloke too!
Lingmere regular Gary Fairhead completed the frame with an ide based weight of 55lb 15oz. Another good effort but can he produce the goods on other venues? Time will tell.
Despite his late arrival due to field testing the latest hair products, Paul Robb won a section with 46lb 08oz. Maggot on the 'mong' was the successful approach. It meant that Paul could keep looking in the mirror instead of watching a float. It worked, so well done Robbo.
Laughin boy Brislen also won a section with an excellent 47lb 10oz, while massive praise must go to Paul Cargill. Apart from the odd alcoholic mishap, Cargy turns up week in, week out, and supports the club at meetings too. He finally got his reward with a first ever section win after weighing 43lb 08oz of feeder caught carp. Such was his domination that he forced Sumo to retire to the Caernarvon midway through the match. Mind you, that's happened loads of times, but that section win....Brilliant.
