Regular readers will know that this blog is usually a light-hearted account of an Eggy outing. Well, today it's not.
When the winner of the match, with a decent weight of 34lb 13oz, greets you with, "Don't book this again, it's S****", it's time to take a look at why we're bothering at all. Yes, 6 of the 12 who fished today were sponsored by Drennan North West (DNW), but most just accepted it as a bad day at the office, and will move on to the next match.
We could quite easily just book Lingmere (for example) every week and members would pretty soon get bored. What we do instead is book a variety of venues which require different approaches, provide different challenges, and have different stocking levels. It's meant to make things interesting. The choice is there for everyone. If you don't fancy a venue, you just don't book on...simples.
The match diary needs organising in advance, and for the most popular venues, up to as much as 3 years hence. We can't just say 'Oh, where's fishing well? let's go there next week'.
Some members of the club put in a lot of unseen effort to make the club outings as enjoyable as possible. Some just turn up and moan. Try asking yourself, What's my contribution? If the answer is 'nothing', then start making an effort. Maybe the club will be more to your liking if you do.
Sadly it's results only this week as praise is not on the agenda.

im with you yozzer well said
ReplyDeleteWith respect Degsy, there's no point having a pop at Yozzer over what he has said because he is bang on the money. You of all people should have known that it was gonna fish hard as you went up there and practiced. It's the same every match, always people moaning and having their digs. Be nice if those people would one day just come up and say thanks instead of slagging the venue off or having a moan at the lads who organise it. I'm glad Yozzer has put this on the blog as it may now sink into the anglers that what we do is a thankless job. As well as working shifts, bringing up 2 small children I have to try and sort out the club stuff as well. Perhaps one day you will appreciate what actually goes on to try and make this club a good club and what goes into trying to make our matches as good and fair as possible. I am packing the Match Capt. role in at nd of year. Perhaps you should take over and see how hard it really is. People booking on late when pegs, paperwork already been done, people trying to bend rules to get the edge, people not knowing rules ro fisheries etc etc. the list goes on. And on top of that we have to put up with all the moaning because venues ain't fished well. Rant over!!!!!! But I get fed up of it too. It ruins the day, be nice if we could go out and have a day with no moans.
ReplyDeleteI'm with the wife muff said!
ReplyDeleteWhat did the muff say ?
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of all sorts of things
What did muff say ?
ReplyDeleteGuys, got to side with Yozza and Jamie on this one. I'm not blameless on the moaning front and you could argue that me fucking off early from some matches is more upsetting to the organisers than me having a bit of a gripe at the end of the match. Everywhere fishes poorly occasionally and as been said before, we can't do a ton every week.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I understand that after catching 4 roach and a 'vehicle reversing' Ide, Cookie has ten kilos of ALDI groundbait going cheap! Go on Pato, you know it makes sense!!!!
ReplyDeletewell said mate done the job for 10 years with 100 plus anglers phoning up all hours at night slightly worse for wear you cant please them all , ite only a days out after all when then get older like us pensioners they will realise its great to be out with your mates
ReplyDeletePot and kettle springs to mind.
Deletesumo when did you do a ton not the car !!!
ReplyDeleteI think you'll find I have 4 ton plus club weights to my credit!!!!
DeleteOnly for eating and starting weight at the slimming club
DeleteGotta be careful here, whilst in principle I agree about moaning at organisers, peggers etc etc moaning is part and parcel of the banter in most clubs and matches would be much duller without it.............
ReplyDeleteAs long as it's not personally aimed at organisers I can see both sides here.
it deffo was not a personal attack,
ReplyDeletei was laughing when i said it,
i admire yozza for what he does for the club and his
fishing skills.
i am gutted this has been blown out of proportion and say am sorry.
dirk
Was yozzer on blob on Sunday...
ReplyDeleteSpadgerxxxx๐๐๐๐
no he got hammerd
DeleteFor the record, I quite enjoyed the day out on Sunday regardless of the poor level of sport. My comments are not really about Sunday in particular. Nor are they aimed specifically at Derek, I just used his quote.
ReplyDeleteMuch of the unseen effort is with regard to match bookings. We try to go to fisheries and build up a relationship with owners. We try to sell the Eggy Ferry in a good light and secure good deals for the club. Not so long ago, Saughall and Lloyds Meadow, to name but two venues, were charging the club somewhere in the region of £160 to hire the whole lake. Most times we could not justify the cost against the numbers turning up. By building bridges with fishery owners we have managed to get better deals where we only pay for pegs used or for only half the lake. Sunday for example 12 fished and we paid for 12 pegs although we had the whole lake. We want owners to look forward to Eggy matches, knowing we respect their waters. When an owner or his bailiff hear any of us calling the venue a s***hole or cesspit or whatever, all the hard work can go out of the window, along with any decent reputation the club has established.
As an example, I went to Lloyds on Monday for a day out but specifically to pay deposits for next years matches. I intended to finish about 3pm. By the time I'd chatted with the new owners it was gone 5. I thoroughly enjoyed it and they are looking forward to us being regular visitors. Let's hope they feel the same way after our next match in 2 weeks time. I hope everyone has a great time, unfortunately I have got to go to Whiteacres.
ReplyDeleteMARTIN HALL, 31st August 2014 ~ Silver-bashing gnome triumphs again
ReplyDeleteSadly our first visit to Martin Hall will probably be our last. On a lovely sunny day, the fish shut up shop, and although there were some cracking carp both caught and lost, the level of sport was not up to scratch. in other words, i hope your not booking this place again its shit ?
Now that's probably the most pointless reply I've ever seen on here. Wtf is that meant to mean? And yes we will be booking it again and if you (whoever you are) don't wamt to go then don't.
ReplyDeletei think it means, there is two ways to say some think, a diplomatic way and blunt way.
ReplyDeleteboth mean the same thing.
derek
Have you read the beginning of the Martin Hall blog Degs, the first word is "SADLY" which to me says Yozzer actually enjoyed the fishin and was only commenting on the amount of moans he/we heard on the day yet again. So to really put the record straight, I don't think he is having a go at the fishery but echoing the moans by other anglers who fished it.
