If last week was full of banter with plenty of laughs, then this one was the opposite. I'm pretty sure that there weren't many who actually fancied fishing on the day. This was Lingmere weather at its cruellest. Strong gusty winds brought regular showers of rain and hail, and it was cold too. Even when the ripple subsided it was still difficult to spot bites through watering eyes. Just what you want when winter F1 fishing. Banter was non-existant as heads were buried deep into snoods, under woolly hats, with hoods pulled up. Brollies were a no-no due to the wind.
Having said all that, Jamie Pickup adopted his usual attitude, I'm fishing 16 metres, I must be good. On this occasion he was good and proved it with a runaway 35lb 12oz for an easy victory.
Don't know where he gets it from cos Dad Kenny tried 6 metres of pole for half an hour then gave up and went on the tip. He was rewarded with some nice F1s and a total of 27lb 04oz for second spot. Come on you Pickups!
Final place in the frame went to the never-reliable Jolly Green Giant. Neil was one of the few who could fish the pole in any degree of comfort, and he put this to good use with a decent day's sport which gave him a 23lb 06oz total. Another hour an he would have won it!
Team Kenny collected more pools money as Ken Stuart won the first section with a level 10lb. They need to win some more as the conditions took their toll and Ken's pole now has 2 short no.5 sections.
Venue regular The Gnome got an envelope to take home as his 17lb 09oz was enough for the other section.
All in all we've had nicer days out, but I suppose even this was better than sittin in the house, by the fire, nice and warm.......... mmmmm ......... don't know so much .

Chapter 14- draw a flier, get tip rod out coz its windy, weigh in 10lb. Ask what the lad you patted on the back for running up last wk caught. Oh he's pissed it with 35lb odd, all caught on the pole in a force 6 gale at 16m. He's awesome you sigh to yourself.
ReplyDelete15-Go home, remove tip rod from bag, remove quiver tip, drop undies and whip yaself on the arse as punishment for finishing last in section.
16-apologise to tip rod for above and gently place it back in rod bag ready for next weeks episode of folded arms and rod butt slapped legs.
your awesome jay, waaaaankeeer
DeleteGood write up again Yozz, was a rock hard day but we battled the elements and came out laughing erm I mean frozen haha. Well done to Yozzer on winning the section winners challenge and good luck to Patto and me Dad on our 3 way battle at the Xmas match. Thanks very much for running these 2 challenges Yozzer. They are superb and create a lot of banter and interest within the club. I was a bit gutted with the turnout of 11 as it was the only match we lost money on all year.
ReplyDeleteit ant over till the fat lady sings.

DeleteThe fat lady has sang. The last match was Sunday and you nor Lee won their section. Yozzer did and as it's the last match of the year then it's all over.
Deleteif you look on the section winners page it says
Deletedecember 2 lingmere matches
dirk
The final match is Xmas match were the qualifiers would "fish off" against each other and the best weight wins. Yozzer is the only one through to the last match so he has no one to fish against so he's won it. The 20lb challenge has 3 anglers left on the last match so they "fish off" at the Xmas match with the best weight winning.
Deletegoal post been moved again
Deletedirk
Why have goalposts been moved???????
DeleteWe'll have a look in the minutes tonight Dirk. If I've understood it wrong I apologise and good luck to the 3 of ya.
DeleteWhich out and out flyer did you draw this week ball bag?
ReplyDeleteI drew 20 but don't know where ball bag drew. Paul Robb nearly broke your walk of shame record too. But he lasted at least an hour.
DeleteAnd I didn't even know Yozza could ride a motorbike!!!
ReplyDeleteAs i recall the section winners and 20ibs challenge it was upto and including xmas match to qualify,if the remaining anglers qualified on xmas match then it would be decided by the highest weight on both challenges,i know that as i was the one who said it and it was agreed,so dirk is right in what hes saying the xmas match was the last chance to qualify and win.Yoz will prob win it anyway but lets play fair and not move the goal posts guys!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe'll have a look what it says in the minutes tonight Lee. If I have understood it wrong then I apologise. But I thought it was the Xmas match to fish against each other to see who wins. I maybe wrong. If so good luck to the 3 of ya but if I'm right unlucky fat cunts.
DeleteChapter 17- check forecast for next match. See it's gonna be flat calm, sunny and decent all day. Sort gear our ready, pack 4 tip rods, 2 waggler rods and 26 pts of Caster. Job done.
ReplyDeleteChapter 18- draw top lake ouch.
Ya not puttin bottom lake in r u? B more fair if its all fished on 1 lake.
DeleteBoth lakes will be in. There will be 6-10 on bottom and rest on top. Winner will more than likely but not definitely come off the bottom lake. Will try and get as many as I can on the bottom but it'll probably be 6/8 depending on weather and what Steve says we can have.
Deletebetter off with everyone on same lake, evenly spaced out.
ReplyDeletethe fish have no where to hide and everyone will catch.
fair for everyone.
dirk
Sections of 3 were designed so that we didn't have to worry about a 'fair' match, just fair sections and a decent day's fishing for all. Personally I'd rather catch a few and come nowhere than win the match with 5lb.
ReplyDeleteI'd put the 3 challenge play off anglers in one section in a line on pegs 3,4,5 to make it fair then spread the 14 others out over the remaining c40 pegs to have a good days sport.......it is xmas after all
ReplyDeleteWho are the challenge winners anyway haha
Problem is Simo, there are still 3 can win section challenge and 7 in the 20lb.You are right though, its the xmas match, not fishofknmania
DeleteI've got a better idea. Why don't we take all the fun out of fishing all together. We can all go and buy a gun and if the lad next door is beating us by half way stage we could shoot him. Let's take all the banter out of it, all the fun out of it and let's win the whole match by any means necessary. After all it is Xmas. For fucks sake. I give in, I'm just gonna shoot myself now and be done with it.
Deletecan I have my casters before you pull the trigger!
DeleteNow calm down and peg it as usual on both lakes with as much space as possible we all wanna catch a few fish first and win second.....I think......you are getting too easy to hook!
I suggest we call in NATO to resolve this important issue. Lives are at stake and more importantly reputations. In all my years of fishing and coming nowhere I have enjoyed many things , catching some fish , catching a load of fish and mainly catching no fish.I don't give a shite who wins what and by what means. Fishing is what it says on the tin "Catching Fish ".If someone catches more than me big deal as long as I and everyone else has enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteIf people want to win all the time then go the full hit , don't be a big fish in a small pond - get fishing open matches show them who's boss.
As for those of us who like the competition and the banter we can carry on being a group of club anglers who enjoy each others company but never reach the heady heights of winning £20 in the section winners challenge.
So next year I will continue with my devastating form of this year and once again win nowt.
So now I have wound a few of you up I wish you all a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year .
Good will to all men at this time of year and see you Sunday
You shower of Fat C***s
Fab response and bang on Steve
DeleteI thank you
